More Options...
Approximately 23% of U.S. suicide deaths are attributable to alcohol.
Binge drinking is generally defined as having five or more drinks on one occasion, meaning in a row or within a short period of time.
When consumed rapidly and in large amounts, alcohol can result in coma and death.
Each year in the United States, more than 696,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking.
Recent research suggests children are less likely to drink when their parents are involved with them and when they and their parents report feeling close to each other.
Adolescents drink less and have fewer alcohol-related problems when their parents discipline them consistently and set clear expectations.
More than 40% of individuals who start drinking before the age of 13 will develop alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence at some point in their lives. [1997 data]
Alcohol use by peers is a strong predictor of adolescent use of alcohol.
Alcohol consumption is associated with all the leading causes of death among teenagers, including traffic crashes, homicides, and suicides.
