A section through the C-1–C-2 intercrest region, thyroid diverticulum and aortic sac.
Observe:
1. The stomodeum separating the maxillary and mandibular processes.
2. Pharyngeal pouches 1 through 4 and their relation to the aortic arches in the floor of the primitive pharynx.
3. The origin of the aortic arches from the aortic sac.
4. Myoblastic collection ventral to the C-1 myotome forming the sternocleido-mastoid-trapezius premuscle mass.
5. The close relation of the C-1 neural crest to the C-1 myotome.
