A section through the middle of the embryo and the immediately surrounding endometrium. The embryo is oriented so that its dorsal aspect is toward the top of the picture. The bilaminar nature of the germ disk is evident. The early primordium of the amniotic cavity appears as a cleft between it and the cytotrophoblast. Early formative cells of the amnion are seen above the amniotic cavity.
